How to make AI write in your own voice
Paste in two or three texts of your own and tell it to write in that tone. An example carries your rhythm, your vocabulary and your habits; no adjective does that. Then strip out anything you would never write, and add the one thing an AI cannot supply: a case of yours, a number of yours, an opinion that takes a side.
Why adjectives do not work
"Warm", "professional", "punchy" are stretchy adjectives: they mean something different to everyone, so the AI resolves them with the average of everything it has read. The result is correct and anonymous, which is the exact opposite of having a voice.
What does work
- The example. Two or three of your own texts that you are happy with, pasted in full, with the instruction "this is my tone".
- The list of what to drop. "No exclamation marks, no superlatives, no stock phrases, no paragraphs beginning with In a world where."
- Your tics, said out loud. "I use short sentences", "I always address people directly", "I never use the word solution".
- Two versions. Ask for one blunter and one warmer, and keep whichever sounds like you. Choosing is faster than correcting.
What only you can add
A long text reads as AI-written when it contains nothing only you could have contributed. Before publishing, check that at least one of these is in there:
- A specific thing that happened to you, ugly details included.
- A number of yours: how long it takes, what you charge, how many clients.
- An opinion somebody could argue with.
- A mistake you made and what you took from it.
The pruning pass
The last pass takes things out, not in. Cut the linking sentences ("in this article we will look at"), the paragraphs summarising what you just said, and anything you could delete without losing an argument. If you would not say it that way out loud, it is not yours yet.
Your voice is not described: it is shown with examples and protected by cutting what you would not say.
